Dear Dancing Friends,
It’s been 15 months since we last danced in person – and even though we’ve danced online – this definitely feels momentous!
“Your task is not to seek from love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” – Rumi
Well, if I can humbly expand upon what Rumi said, I feel our task is not to seek freedom, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within ourselves that keep us from truly being free . . . and that’s how I feel we create true freedom in the world.
The restrictions of Covid, which may have been frustrating, were adopted to keep us safe (whether you feel they were necessary or not) and these places (and conditioning) we find in ourselves, were also created to keep us safe as well . . . and run very deep in our psyches. And one way, I feel, we can become more aware of these barriers, is to move our bodies, feel our feelings and be with whatever comes up, in a space of loving presence. And with this loving awareness, we can more easily let go of things that keep us from being truly free!
So while we are free to dance, let’s also dance – and become aware – of those parts of us that still aren’t free.
15 months ago, I was in New Jersey with my family as my younger brother’s journey here ended (after learning he had cancer 11 weeks earlier) and when I came back to Ashland, everything shut down. I just arrived back after being with my family for the first time since then, and as I arrived back, everything is opening up; so timing for this dance feels significant. (Not to mention that my parents and I went to a medium while I was there, and not knowing who I was or what I did, she told me that John (my brother) said “Do the dance.” She had no idea that I was actually in the process of making a decision on whether to do a 4th of July Ecstatic Dance this Sunday!
So come dance this Sunday, if you feel inspired to join us in a 4th of July celebration! And after checking in with the Dance Space, it is recommended that anyone who is not vaccinated, wear a mask.
Please arrive on time, as I think it will be very powerful for all of us to come together – after all this time – and create a sacred container together.

In Ecstatic Dance, there are no steps or choreography to learn. With our Soul as our Guide, we allow the music to take us on a Sacred Journey, as we explore our own unique “dance” . . . and how our “dance” moves in harmony with the community. Each playlist is one of a kind and designed specifically for that dance.
